Elder Traveler News

March 2008

IT'S FREE! Elder Travelers has moved to a free/donations-based membership model. Rather than collect an up-front fee we have opted to ask for donations and sprinkle non-obtrusive, targeted advertisements about the website. All we ask is that members consider a small donation ($20?) at the time of sign-up, or perhaps "tip" us based on a night at a hotel after a successful rendezvous with a fellow Elder Traveler.

Members can also help generate enough revenue to cover our costs simply by clicking on any advertisements that interest them. Or use our Google search box for any internet search.

Simple ad clicks are a win-win-win situation: you help keep our site alive, an advertiser has an opportunity to show you their product, and ET makes pennies and nickels per click to put toward our hosting costs!

June 2005

The latest feature to be rolled out is our new Classified Advertising section! Members can post ads on our bulletin board for anything from cars, boats & RV's to timeshares, collectibles and real estate!

April 2005

After nearly 1.5 years of development, the new ElderTravelers.org website is launched and previous members are sent emails welcoming them back at 50% off normal membership rates. The response is very positive, if not overwhelming! Returning members find new features like photo and story galleries, online classifieds and online surveys and familiar features like online, real-time member profiles and a powerful search engine to find members and free lodging world-wide.

December 2003

ElderTravelers "dot-org" domain name is registered for our use and development begins on a bigger, better website.

April 2001-May 2003

After the death of our founder and sole proprietor, the ElderTravelers site continues in a sort of auto-pilot mode and membership continues to grow an additional 1,500 members.

In 2003, ElderTravelers "dot-com" domain name is lost to another firm due to a billing snafu. Unfortunately, our website loses its home and our members are left wondering what became of us.

April 2001

Sadly, we lost our founder, husband, uncle and friend, Carlin, to cancer.

January 2001

ElderTravelers is getting up to 300 hits per day and now has members in 48 states, 19 countries and 6 Canadian provinces.

June 2000

ElderTravelers is getting up to 100 hits per day and has members in 33 states, 10 countries and 6 Canadian provinces.

March 2000

ElderTravelers is open for business and accepting free one-year memberships while the site continues to be developed. Daily hits average 25/day. Current members come from 9 countries, 29 US states and 4 Canadian provinces.

December 1998

The ElderTravelers website quietly took its place among all the other websites on the internet with the goal of uniting elder travelers with elder empty nesters.
